This Old House

We have lived in this home for 17 years
17 years
This house has been witness to
4 dogs who are all gone now
2 kids who are all grown now
2 home owners who are all gray haired now
and so much more

When we first saw this house
we were on a house hunt.
We had just moved to the valley with two small kids in tow.
It was hot, we were all tired of looking.
Just one more house to see
before we headed to a baseball game for the afternoon.

It wasn't fancy
but it had almost everything we had on our list of needs.
Did I mention we were tired of looking?

The kids swear that when we drove up
there was a rainbow going over the house.
That is how they knew it was the one.
I knew it would work for us because it had a big back yard.
Wes knew because I said it would work.

Within 10 minutes of walking around the house
we handed the owners a check as earnest money.
we made a commitment to buy it.

There we were
a young family looking for the perfect home
a bigger house
and more room to roam
(hey that rhymes!)
This house was just right for us.

So we loaded up our worldly possessions and moved to Boston St.
And here we have lived in some form or fashion for 17 years.

Depending on who you talk to
you will get a different story about what this house has been
A place to grow up
A place to sleep
A place to find laughter, tears, and many answers to prayer

We have had many guests in this house
some long term and some for just a meal.

When we moved into this house we dedicated it to The Lord
We longed to use it for what ever He wanted to use it for
And use it He did
Over and over
Bible study
fellowship
refuge

We were privileged to be caretakers to His house

And now
it is time to let it go
to pass it on to another young family

I am not sad
just sentimental
so many memories

As I leave this house for good (tomorrow)
I have made it a practice to pray in every corner
inside and out
I pray prayers of thanksgiving
and prayers of blessing
I pray for the next occupants of this house
May they feel the presence of God here
His peace
His love

He has been so very good to me and my family
I pray that in this next season
that He may find me worthy
to be a part of His work

Hebrews 3:1-6 (NCV)

So all of you holy brothers and sisters,
who were called by God,
think about Jesus,
who was sent to us and is the high priest of our faith.
Jesus was faithful to God
as Moses was in God’s family.
Jesus has more honor than Moses,
just as the builder of a house
has more honor than the house itself.
Every house is built by someone,
but the builder of everything is God himself.
Moses was faithful in God’s family as a servant,
and he told what God would say in the future.
But Christ is faithful as a Son over God’s house.
And we are God’s house
if we confidently maintain our hope.

  1. What a beautiful post, Cheryl.

I wish you weren't leaving, you are all very kind, wonderful people. I'm honored to have been your neighbor. :)
