Giving Thanks

One of the things I have observed is
 that it is almost impossible
to understand how to be thankful
unless....
I remember what is was like before.
Before is a big word.
For it was before that I did not know the change my life would take
it was before that I did not know how precious children were

it was before that I did not understand the beauty of large family gatherings
full of too much food,
over the top laughter,
watching a parade full of over sized balloons

while sipping coffee and wrapped in blankets,
hooting and yelling at football games on TV,
crying babies,
remembering those that are no longer at the table,
games of 42,

having the privilege of putting in the last puzzle piece,

pecan pie and coffee,

prayer around the table,
over due hugs,
being thankful.

My heart is more thankful when I remember everything...
the hard stuff and the blessings.
It takes both to fully understand the meaning of
Giving Thanks

It took The God of the Universe to creatively remind me
through life
through death of loved ones
through gifts
through loss
and most importantly through the offering of His Son Jesus
to fully show me the grandness of why I am to be thankful.

I pray for anyone that reads this,
that you too will see beyond the things right in front of you
to the bigger story that is being played out.
God loves you and the earth sings His praises.
Join the song and give thanks to the One
who makes it possible for us
to breathe the air,
to see the wonders,
to feel the emotions for living.

Psalm 100 (ncv)
A psalm of thanks.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with joy;
come before him with singing.
Know that the Lord is God.
He made us, and we belong to him;
we are his people, the sheep he tends.
Come into his city with songs of thanksgiving
and into his courtyards with songs of praise.
Thank him and praise his name.
The Lord is good. His love is forever,
and his loyalty goes on and on.
